Optical Design: The Heart of Vision Inspection

At Vimec, we specialize in optical design—the foundation of high-performance vision inspection systems. We define optical design as the dynamic interplay between three key elements: camera(s), light source(s), and product positioning. For optimal inspection results, all three must be precisely aligned and configured.

  • Camera(s): Selecting the right camera(s) and positioning them accurately relative to the product is crucial.

  • Light source(s): The type, intensity, frequency, and color of the light must be carefully chosen and directed to illuminate the product in just the right way.

  • Product positioning: Consistent and precise placement of the product ensures reliable inspection, time after time.

The goal? Capturing the best possible image—rich in detail and clarity—so the system can accurately assess product quality. Whether it’s dimensional, cosmetic, or print inspection, a well-designed optical setup minimizes false rejects and prevents defects from reaching your customers.

Of course, software—another area where Vimec excels—is essential in analyzing these images, especially in pharmaceutical glass inspection. But even the most advanced software (AI or not) can only work with the quality of the image it receives.
